In the weeks leading up to King Charles III’s coronation ceremony, throngs of tourists descended upon the United Kingdom to witness the dawn of a new era for the British Monarchy. Among the must-see sights was the renowned Buckingham Palace, steeped in centuries of history.
Eager to capture memories, visitors sought photos with various attractions, including the iconic King’s Guards and their majestic horses.
On April 27, 2023, a female tourist unwittingly found herself thrust into the spotlight when a video of her near the King’s Guard went viral online. However, the clip was far from flattering, capturing the moment a horse from the guard unexpectedly bit her long ponytail.
Standing too close to the horse’s mouth, the woman was taken aback as the animal seized her hair and swung it around. Gasps of shock echoed from bystanders, prompting the tourist to quickly retreat. In defense of the palace, a sign warning of potential incidents like this was in place: “Beware. Horses may kick or bite. Thank you.”
Days later, The Mirror reported another unfortunate incident involving the same horse, this time targeting a tourist’s shoulder. Recounting the ordeal, the victim asserted she had done nothing to provoke the animal.
“It did hurt quite a bit as they have big teeth, and I was left with a significant bruise. But it’s not the horse’s fault; they are working animals, and these things can happen. If you get too close, you may pay the price,” she explained.
Reflecting on the recurring incidents, the woman issued a cautionary message to future tourists seeking photos with the horses: “I would advise people attending the coronation to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance.”
