“I just knew it could have been a complete disaster,” he expressed. “My main concern was the safety of the other students on the bus, especially the driver.”
During a news conference, Dillon’s father shared that his son had some experience sitting on his lap and driving cars in the driveway since the age of 4. He also demonstrated proficiency and attentiveness while operating golf carts.
The incident occurred just a few blocks from the Reeves’ residence. Dillon’s parents, Steve and Ireta Marie, heard the sirens of emergency vehicles from their home. Initially fearing their son was in trouble, Steve received a call from the police informing him that his son was being hailed as a hero.
According to his parents, Dillon is typically reserved around others and found it overwhelming to receive such praise for his actions.
“He doesn’t realize how many people are proud of him,” his mother remarked.
A week later, Dillon visited the commissioner of the City of Warren Police Department at his office. Additionally, his mother disclosed that Dillon had the opportunity to speak with the bus driver, who had been discharged from the hospital.
A GoFundMe page has been established for the bus driver, who will be unable to work for at least six months according to Michigan laws. She is also a mother to three children aged between 4 and 8.
