Gabriel, the grandson of the renowned musician Johnny Cash, had initially opted for a career in law enforcement over music. Nevertheless, he struggled for years due to addiction and several brushes with the law, resulting in a ten-year stint behind bars.
However, in 2015, Gabriel’s fortunes took a turn when retired businessman Brian Oxley contacted him. Oxley had a keen interest in Johnny Cash and had even purchased his former farm in Bon Aqua, Tennessee, transforming it into a tourist attraction. During his research on Johnny’s family, he learned of Gabriel’s struggles and aspirations in music. The two spoke, and Gabriel expressed his desire to return to music.
Oxley was willing to help but only on the condition that Gabriel got his life back on track first. A year later, Oxley assisted Gabriel in recording his first album, fulfilling his dream of returning to music.
Today, Gabriel performs his own songs as well as covers his late grandfather’s music. He regards it as an honor to perform his grandfather’s music and a way of carrying on the family legacy. Gabriel believes that the songs are not merely cover songs, but rather a tradition passed down from one generation to the next.
Gabriel’s story is a testament to the strength of second chances and the backing of those who have faith in you. Despite facing several setbacks, he persevered and is now realizing his dream of being a musician
