Stories of animal cruelty are not new to our ears. People abandon and neglect their pets for reasons best known to them.
Meet Maria, a pregnant, abandoned, paralyzed, terrifies, pest-infested, anemic and malnourished dog. Maria was abandoned when her owners discovered she needed a $3,000 C-section. The dachshund was left to fend for herself.
Friends of Emma rescue center officials came to Maria’s rescue. Maria was diagnosed with anemia and other infections. Maria suffered from emotional and physical damage. She could not walk without dragging her feet.
On 4th August 2014, Maria successfully gave birth to 7 pups via C-section. Five of the pups have been adopted. Maria undergoes treatment and therapy to help get on her feet again. Although Maria waddles and stumbles at times, she runs and wags her tail when happy.
