When Casey Church’s precious furbaby was stolen right from under his nose 6 years ago, he thought he’d never see his sweet puppy ever again. Some heartless person thought it was okay to split a happy family apart when they stole the doggy right out of Casey’s own backyard!
When no one fessed up to the crime and turned the pup over to his rightful family, Casey gave up hope that the dog would ever return. All he could do was wish that whoever had taken the dog would treat him well, and give him all the hugs and puppy kisses he deserved. Then one day after 6 years had passed, the sad doggy daddy received a phone message that sent his heart racing!
Casey was a responsible pet parent and made sure that his sweet little guy was microchipped when he was still a pup. Since your average pet thief isn’t going to pay to have it removed, it was still in place when the dog mysteriously came into the care of the Newcastle Animal Shelter in Oklahoma.
He told KOCO 5 News:
“Six years later, I get a phone message from Pet Link that says we found your dog.”
But, finding Casey wasn’t actually as easy as it sounds! The animal shelter’s scanner wasn’t working, so they reached out to friends of the shelter to see if they could scan the dog and find out if he had a home to go back to.
Photos of the dog were taken, but the microchip was no longer registered. However, that didn’t keep the shelter from trying their best to find the pup his real home! It turns out there was another way to track down his previous owners.
The manufacturer’s kept a database of the clinics it sells its microchips to. Just like a dog sniffing out a new trail, this one eventually led staff to the animal hospital where the pooch had first been chipped. Thankfully, they still had Casey’s contact information on file!
No matter how many years pass after losing a furry loved one, you never forget their silly smile, the way they made you laugh for no reason at all, or how nice they finally smelled after getting a bath. All of those memories came rushing back when Casey finally got to reunite with his long lost boy!
“I’ve got me my son back.”
Dogs never forget who their best friend is either, and as soon as he saw his daddy for the first time in way too long, he wagged his tail and whimpered with joy! Casey has noticed some changes in the pooch, like how he’s aged and sprouted a few gray hairs, but he’s still the same wacky doggy that he always ways! More importantly, he can now live out the rest of his life with his real family at his true forever home!
