Every day on his patrol, Klein would wave to him because the officer promised to always be there if he needed help. Klein later recalled how the officer’s promise of help got her through some of the darkest times of her childhood, even though she didn’t even know his name.
According to ABC13, one day an officer, Sergeant Jeff Colvin, became suspicious when Klein didn’t come for him. Sergeant Colvin immediately entered the house through the front door to be horrified by the sight before his eyes.
Klein was seriously ill and no one in the house was caring for her. Sergeant Colvin Klein picked her up and took her to the hospital, where she was treated for malnutrition.
Subsequently, Sergeant Colvin lost contact with Klein when she moved to Austin, Texas. Even after nearly 20 years, Sergeant Colvin Klein never forgot and wondered what happened to him. Klein also never forgot Sergeant Colvin, who is credited with saving his life all those years ago.
Still not knowing her name, Klein emailed the Kansas City Police Department asking for help reuniting her with her rescuer, outlining where she lives and details of the case. Eventually, the department tracked down Sergeant Colvin and asked Klein to tell them in person how grateful she was for all he had done for her as a child.
