When reporters contacted Steve Moore about Jackson, his Golden Retriever, Moore told WTAJ News he was amazed at how everyone wanted to take Jackson home after meeting him, given that the dog had only been rescued from a shelter for a few weeks. Earlier when it seemed that no one wanted him.
Holding a handmade sign that read “Dad told me to wait here” and “I’m waiting,” three-year-old Jackson received plenty of compliments and hugs while waiting for Moore, who was inside the store to buy water and snacks. Not once did he stray from the place allotted to him.
Moore believes that with enough time and practice, you can train almost any dog to do the kinds of things that Jackson is famous for. And sure, the blueberry molasses and peanut butter treats Jackson earns for a good job don’t hurt either.
Moore asserted that he would not have brought Jackson to the target and left him outside unattended if he was not sure that Jackson would be safe from the many vehicles passing in front of the store. Moore worked hard with Jackson to teach him exactly when to stay put and when to run.
