Victoria had come out of her shirtless home in rural Cordes Lakes, Arizona, to look for the family’s other dog, who she mistakenly thought was missing.
Blue, a healer from Queensland who has worked with Victoria since she was a child, stayed with the little one all night as temperatures dipped below 30 degrees (-1 degrees Celsius).
Shortly after their wanderings, her parents noticed their disappearance and raised the alarm. Search and rescue teams searched for 15 hours and the next morning a helicopter spotted her lying on a dry creek bed with Blue by her side.
Blue was protecting her and at first he wouldn’t let the paramedics near. But as soon as Victoria got up and started smiling, Blue’s mood immediately changed and relaxed.
When he realized they were there to help him, he was very excited and ran while Victoria was taken care of. And when it was time to leave, he jumped in the helicopter with her and was ready to take off.
Victoria’s feet were swollen, she had frostbite, her body was covered in scratches but she was fine. The family and the authorities learned that thanks to Bleu, she was still alive. A spokesperson for the mayor’s office said: ‘The dog kept her alert and warm and accompanied her through a very cold night.
What a heroic dog and faithful friend! I am so happy that they are both safe after such a terrifying ordeal.
