Paula and Peter Clozier were concerned when five-year-old Bonnie disappeared from their home in Poulney on Sunday morning. The family searched the area and issued an appeal on social media.

Meanwhile, John Wilmer, who is at a dog show in Felbridge with his two dogs, spots Bonnie on the side of the road.

Wilmer posted a quick message on Facebook asking the pet’s owner to contact him before taking him to the show.

“I was in such a rush to get there when we found Bonnie and put her in the car,” he said.

Wilmer decided to enter Bonnie in the Best Rescue Dog contest, in which she finished third with a rose.

Closiers saw Wilmer’s Facebook post and Bonnie came back after the event.

Peter said the family were in disbelief when Bonnie arrived home.

“We couldn’t believe it, Peter said. You can’t make it up. Bonnie was fine when she got home. She just thought she was having a great day.”

“When she disappeared I had five different conclusions in mind, the best being that she came back. This one was even better, she came back with a rose.”
