Dolphins come to the rescue of elderly dog after he fell in canal unable to get out

Some animals known for being extremely smart such as elephants, chimpanzees and dolphins. Dolphins are also known for being playful creatures, but what most of us do not know is that they have the ability to form strong bonds, express deep emotions, and show compassion for others. In a way, their emotions function similarly to humans.

In the year 2011, an event occurred that showed the world just how amazing our finned friends are when dolphins came to the rescue of a senior dog who fell into a canal.

The event took place in Florida on Marco Island where an elderly Doberman accidentally fell into the canal. There were no other dogs nor any humans present to come to his aid and thus all seemed lost. That was until his splashes caught the attention of a curious group of dolphins.

The dolphins initially approached the dog out of curiosity, but after realizing it was in distress, they took action. The dog did not have enough energy left to stay afloat. The dolphins began to circle the area and make as much noise as they could handle.

According to WPTV News, Local residents report the sounds being very loud, alerting everyone in the area. The dog was quickly spotted by a resident who then alerted the proper authorities. She then dived into the water and successfully rescued the poor dog. The dog was a bit shaken up after the entire event but was going to be okay.

The dog had been struggling in the water for nearly 15 hours, a length of time that is indeed too long for a dog to swim and stay afloat. Being that the dog was elderly and almost 77 years old in dog years, he was incredibly lucky to have caught the attention of those compassionate dolphins. Thanks to the amazing feat of these intelligent creatures, the dog is now alive and well.
