One cold and quite winter morning, police officer Jeff Gonzalez was doing his rounds in a small town located in Wisconsin when he noticed something strange. A black Labrador was frantically running on the street. So when he drove up close to check, the pup starting barking to get his attention.
Gonzalez noticed that the dog wasn’t a stray one because it had a collar on and all. But the dog didn’t stop barking and then Gonzalez decided to follow him:
“He stood there and barked a little bit, then I rolled down my window and called to him. Then he wagged his tail and got more friendly until I got out of my car. And then he ran a little bit,” said Jeff Gonzalez of the Germantown Police Department.
It soon became clear the reason why the friendly black Labrador acted that way. It turned out that the good dog led Gonzalez to the front porch of his home, where the officer found the canine’s owner unresponsive on the porch.
Th woman laid completely still on a chair, with her pajamas on – even though it was past morning already.
“To be honest with you, I thought she was dead. And when I went up, she was very cold to the touch; her lips were blue. But I was able to determine she was breathing and had a pulse. I called for assistance and my partner was close. So together we got her in the house,” said Gonzalez.
The woman was named Krystal, and her dog was John Boy. John Boy ran off to fetch help for his owner, and stumbled across Jeff.
Thanks to the quick thinking and actions of both John Boy and Jeff, Krystal’s life was saved. Krystal is now fully recovered after a short hospitalization period, and credits her dog and the officer for saving her life!
