Out of the blue, an old couple received a call from a stranger. The mysterious stranger informs them that he is a policeman and that their grandson has been arrested. According to a report from the Hanover Sheriff’s Department, the only way to get him out of jail is to buy $4,000 in Target gift cards.
The couple believe the man on the phone is the one who said he was immediately taken to Target to buy the cards. Fortunately, the staff who contacted them knew something had happened.
Matthew Tibbins and Maria Thomas, both Target employees, began asking the couple why they bought two cards at $2,000 each. Once the couple opened up about the situation, the targeted employees realized a scam had occurred.
According to the report, Matthew and Maria made it clear to the couple that they thought they were cheated. This simple act of kindness made the couple question their decision and also realized that they had been cruelly defrauded.
Soon a call was made to the local sheriff’s department to report the situation. The sheriff’s management recognized the good work done by the employees. The caring and considerate work of the two employees saved the elderly couple from a huge financial loss.
