The bus driver’s name is Arlitha Sherman, and her career means more to her than just ferrying children between school and home.
From Monday to Friday, Arlitha happily boards her bus and looks forward to meeting and greeting all the passengers she is happy to travel with. But when she heard about a special little girl’s birthday, she knew she had to plan a unique surprise to brighten the girl’s day.
The student’s name is Anna Hobson, and the girl has a unique story. While attending kindergarten at her school called Sabal Palm Elementary, she also struggled with persistent health issues. According to CBS News, Anna has been diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which has kept her in a wheelchair for the past six months.
This disease is degenerative, which means that it leads to progressive nerve damage as well as deterioration of muscle tissue. But as Anna’s fifth birthday approached, her beloved bus driver, Arlitha, wanted to do something special for the optimistic little girl.
While waiting for the bus for her birthday, Anna is surprised when Arlitha approaches her house in a special princess dress and tiara to wear. But that wasn’t the only gift waiting for Anna. Games, hair clips and something extra special await the tough girl.
The inside of the bus is decorated with “Happy Birthday” decorations and even colorful banners in different colors! The little girl was excited and felt special for her big day after seeing the surprises Arlitha had in store for her.
Obviously, Anna’s parents were very grateful to the bus driver who went out of his way to give their daughter a good start to the day. Arlitha admits that the young girl holds a special place in her heart because even though she faces struggles, she never complains and remains optimistic.
