“Everyone just wanted to help” when they heard about the tragic house fire, Casey McIntosh, Hunt’s teacher, said in an interview with CNN.
Teachers at Philadelphia Elementary School in central Tennessee then decided to organize a play campaign, where students could bring in a toy of their choice to give as gifts.

“It was really cool and fun for the kids. They had to keep it a secret, so they walked around every weekday morning and whispered, ‘I’ve got this game for Daniel hidden in my bag,'” said McIntosh at publication.
The students collected toys for Hunt for an entire week. Then, that Friday, Macintosh sent the boy on a mission while the class prepared to surprise Hunt with toys.
When he came back, we shouted ‘Surprise! “Instead of rushing to games, he just opened his arms and asked his teammates for a hug,” Macintosh said.
Hunt has since said the gesture left him in tears of joy and felt “joy in his stomach.” His mother, Kristen Wellborn, said the boy hasn’t stopped smiling since then.
