At 96, Italian verist soprano Magda Olivero had one of the most famous opera voices of her time. Despite the fact that Olivero passed away in 2014, his incredible talent continues to spread across the internet as it moves people around the world.
Olivero performed every year in Italy on August 15, a public holiday in Ferragosto. She sang in the church in Sölden, known as “Parccia di Solda” in Italian. The singer is often called “the last soprano of verism” and is still remembered to this day as one of the greatest singers of the 20th century.
Olivero’s impeccable technique allowed her to have a long and successful career before his death, and she gave her last public performance at the age of 99. The usual retirement age for singers is almost half a decade before that.
However, Olivero’s performances were met with a half-hour standing ovation and praise even in his later years of opera singing. With his beginnings in the 1930s, Olivero has done well in the 21st century. Sadly, she passed away on September 8, 2014, at the age of 104, from a stroke a month before her death.
With such a prolific career, it’s no surprise that people still love and appreciate his music. Oliviero sang “Panes Angelicos” in church at the age of 96 on August 15, 2006, and she is still considered an absolute classic to this day.
