A dog in a Florida animal shelter is using her talent to own her new owner’s heart. Ginger, a 1-year-old mixed breed in Orange Country, Florida was found in the streets in early February. She was then picked up and taken to the shelter. She was fed, bathed, taken care of and put out for adoption.
Sadly, Ginger has heartworms. It’s a curable condition but it makes it hard for Ginger to get adopted due to the time and expenses of the treatment. However, Ginger didn’t let her condition to stop her from working hard to take over people’s hearts and eventually find a forever home. So she took use of her fun and quirky personality and starts dancing whenever adopters come to visit the shelter.
Like a woman doing the salsa, Ginger rises up on her hind legs and shuffles back and forth behind the bars of her kennel. Her tail wags; her tongue lolls out. She can dance for several seconds before getting tired and going back to four legs.
Ginger’s dancing proved to be such a unique sight that one shelter employee just had to document it. After capturing Ginger’s moves on her smartphone, Crystal Kincaid uploaded the video to the Orange County Animal Shelter’s Facebook page.
“Ginger Rogers is looking for a new dance partner!” she wrote.
The video was an instant hit. It racked up thousands of views in just a few short hours, and before long, that number had swelled to 500,000 views, 8,500 shares and 2,500 likes. It also prompted hundreds of comments from dog lovers and general well-wishers.
“Sooo adorably precious,” said one commenter. “Such a beautiful sweetheart!”
“She’ll dance way out of there,” predicted another. “Very intelligent!”
Many people expressed a desire to adopt her. Some were serious offers; others were just exclamations from people who were overwhelmed by the cuteness.
“Wish I was in that area,” one commenter lamented. “I would get her immediately.”
Ginger’s story quickly spread through news outlets and social media. It was reported by everyone from Inside Edition to The Huffington Post, and comments were overwhelmingly positive as folks expressed their hope that Ginger could find a new home.
The good news is that her moves eventually paid off. After several weeks of strutting her stuff for potential adopters, the Orange County Animal Shelter posted on Facebook that Ginger had been taken home by a loving couple.
“Miss Ginger was adopted earlier today and she will soon be raising the roof under her new roof!” they declared.
Commenters were overjoyed.
“Pawsome news!!” one person joked. “Ginger & her new family are all soo lucky to find each other!! God bless them all.”
“Yay!!! Let’s get more amazing animals adopted!!” said another.
It might have taken awhile, but this dancing dog from a Florida animal shelter got her happy ending.
