Jean’s dancing career took a pause when she married Frank in 1963. After Frank’s death due to cancer in 1981, Jean retired from dancing. She spent the next few years away from the spotlight, until Rudy Linan, a swing dancer from Las Vegas, approached her and asked her to be a part of his documentary on swing dancing. This invitation reignited Jean’s passion for dancing, and she started teaching and performing again.
Jean’s return to the dance floor was met with great enthusiasm from people all over the world. In 1992, she was invited to perform and teach at an annual swing dance event in Munich, Germany, where she was introduced to a new generation of dancers who wanted to learn from her. She continued to participate in various events and TV shows, sharing her love and knowledge of Lindy Hop with people everywhere.
At the age of 91, Jean was still dancing with the same energy and passion as she did in her younger days. In a video filmed in Thailand during a SEA Jam 2014 dance camp, Jean is seen dancing to the tune of “Let It Roll” by Pops Walsh with The Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra. The crowd that had gathered to watch her was amazed by her spectacular dancing skills. Jean continues to be an inspiration to dancers all over the world, and her contributions to the dance form are recognized by the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame, which inducted her in 1996.
