The seniors’ dance moves were an authentic reflection of the era they grew up in. Between World War I and World War II, swing, the Foxtrot, the Charleston, and shag dancing were all the rage.

These styles eventually gave birth to the lindy hop, a popular dance form that emerged in the 1920s. The Charleston dance was named after Charles Lindbergh, who flew across the Atlantic Ocean and “hopped” over it, thus coining the name. Despite the passage of time, seniors kept these dance moves alive by attending functions and cutting loose every now and then.

Dancing is a great workout for people of all ages. It not only keeps the heart pumping but also makes people feel younger.

Dancing can be considered the key to the fountain of youth because it keeps the heart healthy and exercises the brain as people come up with moves to go along with the rhythm. As such, Sam and Ellen are bound to enjoy long and happy lives due to their passion for dancing.

The Columbia Star reported that Ellen, also known as the first lady of shag, established the Ellen Taylor Foundation for Junior Shaggers. She is clearly an inspiration to many, and her dance skills prove that she knows how to move.

Watching the seniors’ dance video takes one back in time to a simpler era. The way Sam and Ellen moved and grooved even inspired some people to stand up and dance. Despite the countless dance sensations of today, the classics should not be forgotten.
