Edith proved to be an obstacle that commercial developers couldn’t bypass, leading them to devise an alternative plan: constructing the shopping mall around her house. It was a challenging task for the developers to create a new blueprint that accommodated Edith’s modest 1000-square-foot home.
While they managed to convince all the other landowners in the vicinity, Edith remained resolute. As a result, once the mall was built, Edith’s small bungalow stood as a nostalgic and unique piece amidst the modern surroundings.
Upon Edith’s death in 2008, she entrusted her home to Barry, having full confidence in his ability to preserve it for years to come. To this day, the house still stands, a testament to their bond. Barry initially intended to transform the house into a memorial for Edith but ultimately decided against it.
Instead, he put the house up for auction, and it was eventually purchased by a company called Reach Returns. Their intention was to convert it into a coffee shop, so they made alterations to the walls and reconfigured the space. However, their plan failed to materialize successfully.
