Environmental Security Camera Captures Woman Abandoning Dog in Vancouver, Washington
A disturbing case of animal abandonment was captured on camera in a park in Vancouver, Washington. Footage from an environmental security camera shows a woman throwing a yellow Labrador Retriever into the park and then removing the dog’s leash and collar before walking away. The video shows her pretending to go on a walk through the woods, hoping to entice the dog to follow her.
The camera’s owner, Alyssa Ott, was shocked when she saw the footage and immediately contacted a friend, who then called the I Paw’d It Forward dog rescue service. The rescue service agreed to take the dog in and provide him with the care he needed.
Keri-Lyn Jakubs, who was present during the rescue, said that the way the woman removed the collar and petted the dog suggested that it was her own dog. She believed that the woman didn’t want to be traced and was trying to abandon the dog in a way that made it difficult for anyone to find her.
Jakubs also expressed concern that the woman might return to the park to make sure the dog was not found, given that she had already gone to the trouble of removing the collar and leash.
Thankfully, the dog has since been transferred to the Humane Society of Southwest Washington, where he is safe and receiving care. However, the incident has sparked an investigation by Clark County Animal Control and Protection, who are asking for the public’s help in identifying the woman responsible for abandoning the dog.
