Regaining consciousness, she found a dog looming over her, a realization that struck her profoundly.
“I don’t know when I came to, but when I did come to, I felt his huge presence. I could feel his breath. The dog… I don’t know how he came across me, but I thank God that he did,” Lorio recounted to NBC News.
The name ‘Hero’ was bestowed upon him for the life-saving actions he took in those crucial moments.
As recounted by NBC News, Hero swiftly seized her jacket and pulled her approximately 150 feet to the edge of a nearby road. This incredible feat was particularly noteworthy, considering the difficulty of moving an unconscious person, even for a relatively small individual. Fortunately, a fortuitous car arrived just as she was brought to the roadside.
Before losing consciousness once more, she managed to instruct the motorist to call an ambulance. While she did not require surgery and eventually made a full recovery at home, the situation could have unfolded drastically differently if not for the brave intervention of the German shepherd.
Following the incident, Shannon tirelessly searched for Hero and eventually discovered that he had found an adoptive home. Remarkably, the narrative’s conclusion is perhaps the most heartening part: Hero has now officially transitioned into a role as a search and rescue dog.
“If he ever needs anything, I’ll be there,” Lorio affirmed.
His new vocation suits him perfectly, and Shannon expressed her joy that he has found a caring home
