In March 2016, Hannah Mongie faced a difficult decision when she gave birth to a baby boy named Taggart at the young age of 18. Taggart’s father had passed away in his sleep 12 weeks into Mongie’s pregnancy, leaving her with the challenge of raising a child alone. Knowing that she couldn’t provide her son with everything he needed, Mongie decided to place him up for open adoption, a decision she would later describe as the best one she could have made.

Taggart was adopted by Emily and Brad Marsh, who were already parents to two other adopted sons, Carter and Lucas. The Marsh family believed in the importance of open adoptions and wanted to give their children’s birth mothers a place in their lives. For this reason, Mongie recorded a video message for Taggart that explained her decision and expressed her love for him.

Despite giving up her son for adoption, Mongie remained close to the Marsh family. Living just 10 minutes away, she became good friends with Emily and even babysat Taggart and his brothers. The adoption worked out well for everyone involved, providing Taggart with the love and support of a loving family, while allowing Mongie to make the best decision for her son’s future.

The Marsh family’s story highlights the importance of open adoptions, which allow birth parents to maintain a connection with their children and provide a sense of security and belonging for the child. Mongie’s selfless decision to give up her son for adoption, coupled with the Marsh family’s willingness to embrace her as a friend and support system, has created a beautiful and unique family dynamic that has benefited everyone involved.
