The disability finally reached him soon after. However, he was still living on only $200 a month after paying rent. His girlfriend Lisa lived with him and helped him pay the bills, but her help was still only to get it.
Lauren was reaching a breaking point. That’s when he watched an episode of Antiques Roadshow. In this particular episode, an older man was shocked to find out that he had Navajo Phase 1 coverage worth about $500,000.
Lauren couldn’t believe it. He inherited a blanket similar to the one he saw on the show. He was sitting in his locker after he took it after his grandmother died.
“I paused it and went to get the cover sitting there holding it,” Kretzer told CNBC. “…I line up the lines on the TV with the cover, to see if they match.” , the appraiser says $300,000 to $500,000,” he recalls, so “I think that value is probably $5 to $10,000.” ”
The funny thing is that neither her sister nor her mother wanted the cover. So Lauren took it home and put it in his wardrobe. He stayed there, out of sight, for seven years.
He thought the blanket might be worth at least $5,000 to $10,000. However, his mother said it was probably barely worth $10. Lauren knew he had to find out for himself how old this blanket really was.
Early sellers told him it was worth nothing. Then he took it to a family auction company known as John Moran Auctioneers. Jeff Moran tested the blanket and found it to be an extremely rare Navajo blanket.
Six months later, the cover was put up for auction. In 77 seconds, it sold for $1.5 million. Lauren brought home $1.3 million. Lauren met Moran’s accountant and learned how to manage his money. He is happy to be able to buy the things he has always wanted.
