Memorial Day and buying a poppy are very important to veterans. Timbrance Bateson, 3, learned the meaning of the day from his mother.

The money raised from the sale of poppies was intended for veterans and the families of soldiers who died during the war. Although Tempe didn’t understand why they were giving money to the soldiers, she decided to be part of the fundraising process.

Tempe, at the age of five, decided to participate in the 100 meter swim and triathlon to raise money to help champions.

Unbeknownst to Tempy, she was about to strike up a new friendship. I met Simon Brown, a soldier who was shot by a sniper in Iraq. Simon ended up with only 20% vision in one of his eyes.

Simon was one of the fundraising campaign beneficiaries. The two reunited on an online series called “Facing It Together” where they shared their stories.

Tempe liked Simon because she liked to challenge herself and applauded soldiers for being heroes.
