Their bond has only grown stronger over the years. Macintosh raised him from birth. He loved her as his son – and she wanted to make it official by adopting him.
“She wanted him to either go to an African American home or a biracial home,” Macintosh said.
Macintosh continued to fight to adopt the child – but in her heart she knew the legal formalities didn’t matter.
“He was part of the family no matter what.”
When it was clear that there were no other homes available, Macintosh was finally able to officially adopt the boy.
Jordan was four years old
More than 20 years have passed. Thanks to McIntosh, Jordan grew up in a safe and happy home. He knew how much his adoptive mother would fight for him – and one day he would reward her kindness.
“Everything she’s done for me since I was a kid, I just wanted to give back to her and show her how much I appreciate her,” Jordan told KPHO.
When Jordan was 27, he had the opportunity to reciprocate – when tragedy struck.
In 2014, Macintosh discovered that she had polycystic kidney disease. She was seriously ill and would need a kidney transplant.
Without hesitation, voluntary Jordan
Macintosh surprised. Jordan’s donation would save her life – but she wanted to make sure her adopted son was okay.
“I kept telling him until the surgery date, you can back out,” Macintosh said, according to HLN.
But she was reassured by Jordan’s stunning response.
“You caught me, now I want to do this for you”
The transplant was successful. Jordan didn’t think twice about it – he knew it was meant to be.
“I feel like that was my message in life, I guess,” he told KPHO.
