On July 11, 2023, Lavender, guided by her adoptive father Wil Darcangelo, took the “America’s Got Talent” stage, unknowingly setting the internet abuzz with her incredible performance. In her interaction with Howie Mandel, Lavender shared that she began singing at the age of 3, despite not speaking until she was four and a half. She also disclosed that she was both autistic and blind.
When Mandel asked why she came on stage, Lavender responded, “Well, because I have a lot of dreams.” She expressed her desire to create a school based on children’s natural curiosity.
Lavender’s rendition of Irene Cara’s “Out Here On My Own” left the audience and judges in awe, earning her a standing ovation. Simon Cowell praised her as “sensational” and noted the magical quality of her performance. Sofie Vergara and Mandel also praised her, but it was Heidi Klum who was deeply moved to tears.
Expressing her emotions, Klum said, “I feel like I just fell in love. This ‘AGT’ journey is amazing, and I would love to be your cheerleader and hold your hand all the way to the finish line. What do you say?” Klum then granted Lavender a well-deserved golden buzzer, rushing to the stage to embrace her and offer reassurance. It was a heartfelt moment that brought tears of joy to everyone watching
