Gwyneth Paltrow came under fire from TikTok users, who labeled her the ultimate “almond mom,” a term used to criticize those overly focused on health and wellness to an extreme degree. Some accused her of using wellness as a cover for promoting thinness.
“Wellness is the new ‘how do u stay thin?’” one user remarked, while another expressed concern, saying, “This is much more unhealthy than being chubby. Her poor body.”
One commenter noted that restrictive diets like hers are unfortunately common among women in Hollywood, even in today’s world.
In response to the backlash, Paltrow clarified her approach in a now-deleted Instagram Stories post from March 17, 2023. She explained that she doesn’t just consume bone broth and vegetables.
“I eat full meals. And I also have days where I eat whatever I want, including french fries. But my focus has been on maintaining a healthy diet to calm inflammation in my body,” she said, according to *Today*.
Paltrow shared that she has long COVID, which causes inflammation, and she’s been working with Dr. Cole to incorporate anti-inflammatory foods like cooked vegetables, various proteins, and healthy carbs, which have helped reduce inflammation.
She emphasized that her diet is personal and was shared as part of an honest conversation with her doctor. Paltrow stressed that it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach and shouldn’t be taken as a guide for others to follow:
“This was an honest portrayal of my conversation with my doctor. It’s what has worked for me personally, and it’s been beneficial and positive.”
