Paltrow faced criticism from TikTok viewers, labeling her as the ultimate “almond mom,” a term used derogatorily to describe someone excessively focused on health and wellness. Some accused her of misrepresenting her efforts to maintain thinness with wellness.
“Wellness is the new ‘how do u stay thin,'” one user commented, while another expressed concern, stating, “This is much more unhealthy than being chubby. Her poor body.”
According to one comment, such a restrictive diet is unfortunately common among women in Hollywood, even in contemporary times.
In response to the backlash, Paltrow addressed the issue in a now-deleted Instagram Stories post from March 17, 2023, clarifying that she consumes more than just bone broth and vegetables.
“I eat full meals. And I also have days where I eat whatever I want, including french fries. But my focus has been on maintaining a healthy diet to calm inflammation in my body,” she explained, as reported by Today.
Paltrow revealed she suffers from long COVID, causing inflammation, and has been working with Dr. Cole to incorporate anti-inflammatory foods like cooked vegetables, various proteins, and healthy carbs into her diet, which has been effective in lowering inflammation levels.
She emphasized that her dietary routine is personal and shared it as a transparent conversation with her doctor. Paltrow stressed that it may not be suitable for everyone and shouldn’t serve as a model for improving health:
