Renowned Forensic Artist Lois Gibson Creates First Sketch of Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnapper

“The world’s most successful forensic artist” has joined the urgent effort to bring Nancy Guthrie home.

Houston-based artist Lois Gibson has crafted the first visual approximation of the grandmother’s alleged kidnapper, piecing together clues from the limited surveillance footage showing a masked suspect near her home.

Gibson — whose work has helped capture more than 750 criminals — describes the abductor as having a wide head, thick eyebrows, medium-length dark hair, and a goatee.

Forensic Artist Lois Gibson Releases First Sketch of Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnapper

Renowned forensic artist Lois Gibson has unveiled a sketch depicting what she believes is the kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie.

“I guessed at the parts of the face covered by the ski mask using the surveillance photos shown,” Gibson posted on social media. “I spent 43 years on this job helping detectives with similar cases. Only the eyes and part of the lips/mustache are somewhat certain. I’ll take the hit if I’m drastically wrong.”

This sketch is the first visual clue that could help identify the suspect. Police have not released their own sketch but shared doorbell footage last week showing the heavily masked man near Guthrie’s home, hoping someone could recognize the visible features.

Authorities described the suspect as a male, approximately 5’9″–5’10″ tall, with an average build.

The release of the sketch led to at least one detainment: a Tucson delivery driver was questioned after a family member thought his eyes matched the suspect’s, but he was later released.

Forensic Artist Lois Gibson Defends Early Release of Nancy Guthrie Kidnapper Sketch

Lois Gibson, who holds the world record title as “The World’s Most Successful Forensic Artist,” faced criticism for releasing a sketch of Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapper before law enforcement had authorized one.

Gibson responded to the backlash by highlighting her decades-long experience and proven track record.

“Pompous critics call me unethical and claim they have higher professionalism — blah blah blah,” Gibson said Friday, referencing a past case in which she drew a sketch of an abuse victim using only the girl’s skull. That sketch ultimately led the victim’s mother to recognize her missing daughter.

“I do it to help victims of crime,” Gibson continued. “My sketches have helped recover eight kidnapped victims, including four infants. These critics may never have helped return a baby to their hysterical mom. I’ve witnessed the agony of loved ones whose family members were abducted, and it is the worst emotional torture imaginable. I did this effort to help.”
