Reno, NV – Firefighters from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District recently responded to an unusual and delicate rescue involving a service technician’s van.

According to a post on the agency’s social media, the incident began when a curious German shepherd puppy darted under the technician’s parked vehicle and managed to climb into the undercarriage. The situation quickly became serious when the puppy wedged himself near the rear axle, putting him at significant risk.
Due to the puppy’s precarious position, firefighters had to proceed with extreme caution. The young dog had attempted to climb onto the rear axle, placing himself in a spot where even the slightest shift in the vehicle’s suspension could have caused serious injury. Fire crews worked carefully to ensure the suspension remained stable while devising a safe method to extract the frightened pup.

The Engine 44 crew, working alongside Washoe County Regional Animal Services, successfully freed the trapped puppy without injury. The young dog is now in the care of animal services and will remain on a stray hold while efforts are made to locate his owner, who officials hope will come forward soon to bring him home.
