In this almost helpless situation, Virginia Kinch and her three daughters visit Olivia’s family, serving Thanksgiving meals to the homeless.
When they saw the conditions the family was living in, they immediately wanted to help.
“There was no way those kids would be left out there in the winter cold for another week. I was worried that (the baby) would die. Olivia said it was very cold sometimes on the bus, they could see their breath and I knew was not safe,” he said.
Virginia Kinch had a brilliant idea. They had a second home that they were about to rent or sell.
They were paying the utility costs there anyway and the house was vacant so why not let those who need it use it for a bit?
Although this was a temporary arrangement, until Olivia and Eric could once again support their family, it was a very thoughtful gesture that meant a lot.
Their decision surprised Olivia so much that she didn’t believe it at first.
“I thought it was a joke. It was my mentality because nobody does that,” Olivia said. “Until we moved here, I didn’t really think it was real.”
Olivia said this act of kindness helped her regain her faith in humanity. In his words, Virginia is in his eyes an angel who saved his family, and now they have a place to enjoy Christmas this year too.
