Susan Boyle was just an ordinary person struggling to find acceptance from her peers. Born in Blackburn, West Lothian, in 1961, Boyle was the youngest of nine children.
Her father, Patrick Boyle, was a WWII veteran and miner who sang at Bishop Blaize, while her mother, Bridget, worked as a shorthand typist. Despite finding her place within her large family, Boyle faced difficulties outside of her home.
In a 2013 interview with The Guardian, Boyle opened up about being bullied by her peers for being different.
Throughout her life, she has faced emotional outbursts and difficulty with social interaction and communication, which has made it challenging for her to form relationships and behave appropriately. However, singing has always been a solace for Boyle.
“I come from a musical family,” Boyle shared. “It has always been there, from my father down. Singing is always something I have done. It has been in my blood since I was 12 and took part in school productions and shows.”
Boyle’s appearance on Britain’s Got Talent catapulted her to international fame, but her journey to get there was a long and challenging one. Despite the difficulties she faced growing up, Boyle persevered and followed her passion for singing, eventually capturing the hearts of millions with her incredible voice.
