The nurse from Denmark, Wisconsin knew she was signing up to become a compassionate and competent caregiver when she decided to pursue her career. What she didn’t know was that she would immediately end up saving a life through her selfless sacrifice. Lauritz is a nurse in the intensive care unit at Frodetert Hospital in Milwaukee.
Lauritz’s life changed dramatically in the spring of 2019 when patient Bryden Oten was brought in for checkup after his mother received a call from the school nurse saying the boy wasn’t feeling well. Auten was soon diagnosed with liver failure due to a virus invading the organ.
According to Inside Edition, the virus attacked quickly and soon the Auten family learned that their precious son would need a transplant. The family reached out via social media and asked for a liver to be found for their rapidly deteriorating child. As a nurse, Lauritz was at the forefront of the family’s suffering and anguish.
The impact was so great that she decided to take matters into her own hands and see if she would be a viable candidate to donate part of her liver to Auten. In May, the transplant was completed and both are thriving today.
The Auten family created a GoFundMe account to help raise money for medical expenses. Furthermore, they are very grateful to Loritz for saving their child’s life.
The couple recently celebrated their transplant success with a photo shoot. Just look at these great photos.
