Dogs are known as man’s best friend because of the huge amount of love and loyalty that they show humans. However, a video is now going viral showing that cats can be just as loyal as dogs, if not more so!

Trooper is a friendly cat who absolutely loves the Hackney family, who are her owners. The family found him in the basement of a home that they were refurbishing, and he has been with them ever since. Alexis Hackney recalled that the kitten “was inside the wall, and my mom and sister had to get a sledgehammer, and bust out the sheet-rock and get her… She was about 2 weeks old. Her eyes were barely open.”

The Hackneys still have no idea how she got there nor how she survived there for so long, but they are sure glad that she did!

All was going well until the family’s 96 year-old grandmother Sarah Whaley fell ill. It was only after she got sick that the family realized just how close the bond was between Trooper and Sarah. Trooper slept in Sarah’s bed to make her feel better and would only leave her side to bring her gifts from all over the house.

Sadly, Sarah eventually passed away, and Trooper was completely devastated. Sarah said that the cat “stopped eating. She’s not a very vocal cat, but she was just walking around the house, crying all of the time.”

Trooper is doing much better now, but Sarah still holds a special place in her heart. To this day, Trooper brings gifts of socks from around the house to the old bedroom that Sarah slept in.
