Jesse McCombs said she opened the door last week to two people standing on her porch dressed professionally and claiming to be with CPS.
The man and woman said they were holding Jesse’s son because of his injury. Jesse was puzzled, especially since his son had no injuries. At first I thought people had to go to the wrong house. However, the couple managed to verify their son’s first name and date of birth.
When the man and woman couldn’t show ID or a court order, Jesse knew it must be some kind of fraud. She immediately called 911 thinking her child could be kidnapped if she didn’t act quickly, reports KIRO.
As soon as I picked up the phone, the duo left and told Jesse they would be back later. The Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families emphasized that any Public Safety Police officer will always be accompanied by law enforcement in such situations. Officials praised Jesse for his quick thinking.
This horrific incident follows a similar event last month in Santa Ana, Calif., when a woman posing as a social worker attempted to pick up a newborn baby, according to ABC. The events highlight the growing problem of people posing as CPS agents in an effort to abduct children from their families.
