The boy from Hubei, China made headlines when he used all the cash gifts he received during Chinese New Year to buy a diamond ring for his mother.
According to SoraNews24, the little boy saved over 8,800 yuan (US$1,200) last Chinese New Year and bought a ring for his mother.
The boy had dragged his mother to a jewelry store in a mall in Tiananmen, central China’s Hubei province, to let his mother search for a diamond ring of her choice.
“He said he wanted to buy a diamond ring after seeing his classmates’ mothers wearing diamond rings,” said a jewelry office worker.
The boy then picked out a diamond ring worth 8,100 yuan ($1,197) for his mother to try on.
The mother who thought her son was joking initially tried to leave the jewelry store.
However, his act later caused the boy to burst into tears as he was later seen hugging his mother and crying.
The son apparently didn’t want his mother to feel neglected as all of his classmates’ mothers wore expensive and shiny diamond rings.
A mother who understood her son’s good intentions can be seen comforting the boy and then used another tactic to dissuade her son from buying the expensive piece from her.
Later, she points to another 50,000 yuan ($7,455) diamond ring and says she prefers the more expensive diamond ring.
“My mom loves it. You can save more money and buy me this later,” said the employee who overheard him.
