However, their initial encounter was far from a romantic movie scene; it was the result of a blind date, as reported by PEOPLE. In fact, their first meeting began with Streisand humorously teasing Brolin about his hair.
“We were set up on a blind date, and I was so shy that I initially went into the house and joined the children to play with them, delaying the moment I had to sit down at the table,” Streisand shared.
Fortunately, their undeniable chemistry soon became evident. Streisand revealed that Brolin confessed he “knew (right away)” that she was the one for him, although it took her “a few days” for her feelings to reciprocate.
When Brolin and Streisand embarked on their initial dating journey, he recollects that his friends initially discouraged him from marrying the renowned singer. “I kept hearing that she’s quite a strong personality,” he shared during an appearance on The Talk. Fortunately, he chose not to heed their cautions.
Today, Streisand and Brolin are joyfully celebrating more than 23 years of marriage. Their union was solemnized on July 1, 1998, after two years of courtship. They chose an intimate wedding ceremony graced by their celebrity friends, including Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Quincy Jones, and John Travolta.
As reported by PEOPLE, Streisand serenaded the gathering with two melodious songs, while Brolin delivered a memorable speech, expressing, “I can’t adequately convey how fortunate I feel that this is happening to me at this stage in life. Brolin disclosed to HuffPost Live that both he and Streisand maintain their financial independence, ensuring that complexities do not arise.
Streisand attributes the success of their relationship to the quality of “kindness,” as she shared with Extra. She believes that this simple but profound advice can help couples sustain their own flourishing relationships. She articulated:
“The Dalai Lama advises, ‘Speak the truth with compassion…’ In the past, I used truth as a weapon, saying things like, ‘Well, you look overweight because you are overweight…’ I’m just telling you the truth.’ Speaking the truth with compassion changes the delivery—I don’t think you can take each other for granted.”
