That’s why passers-by were terrified to see what they thought was a baby strapped to a car seat in Keene, New Hampshire. Although this story happened in 2016, it will probably happen again.
A concerned citizen called 911 and reported that he was in a car with a trapped child. It happened on a sweltering day at a Walmart mall.
Lt. Jason Short was the officer who responded to the emergency call. He got to the scene as quickly as he could. He knew there were hundreds of cases where children died after being locked in a hot car during the hottest days. The policeman in question knew that the clock was ticking fast.
When Constable Short got into the car, he looked inside to make sure a child was already there. He was there – he saw a very small child with a bottle. The child was left strapped into a car seat and covered with a small baby blanket.
Short knew he had to act fast. He pulled out his stick and smashed the car window. Then remove the child as soon as possible.
However, he realized something was wrong.
The little boy seemed lifeless. Short even tried performing CPR on the child, but soon found he had no results.
Short called an ambulance to help the child. Then he decided to look to see if anything could block the baby’s airway by inserting a finger into the baby’s mouth. When he did, he felt resistance.
Within seconds, Short realized the mistake. He immediately stopped the ambulance.
