The Nassau County Police Department filed a report that the man, Valerie Portlock of Hicksville, was traveling in a black vehicle. A horn sounded and emergency lights flashed in an attempt to stop the truck.
Can you imagine what was going through his mind when he found out the truck was full of Nassau County detectives – the real police?
Portlock pulled up next to the truck as it was parked in traffic and detectives identified themselves. That’s when the con man got scared and went from trying to act like a cop to trying to act like he was in a Hollywood chase scene.
He quickly swerved into oncoming traffic and did not stop, even though he was going the wrong direction. He kept accelerating until he was heading for the Long Island Freeway, driving as fast as he could.
Soon, however, the Nassau County Highway Patrol was called and they were looking for this fake cop. Shortly after, he was spotted and the real cops easily managed to grab him and salute him.
Valerie Portlock, 25, was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal impersonation, second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful desertion of a police officer among numerous other moving vehicle violations. Realistic case of the good cop against the bad cop. Apparently the good cops got it right that day.
