But fans at the time were unaware of her romance with Angelil, which the two had been hiding for five years. Thus, in the summary notes of his 1993 album The Color of My Love, Dion announced his relationship. She later told CNN:

“I wrote a note behind my album. Renée is my love, I can’t keep this secret inside me anymore. It’s getting too strong. Let me draw a reality and show you what I feel. Renée, you are the one color of my love.”

The same interview revealed that Dion’s girlfriend and former publicist, Mia Dumont, was responsible for planning their wedding. After asking the singer what she wanted, she was told, “I want something that I will remember all my life.” So Dumont went ahead and proposed to Dion and Angelil a “fantasy wedding” on December 17, 1994.

In 2001, they had their first child, René Charles Angelil. Raising their son made picky parents realize that they desperately wanted to have another child. Unfortunately, they were struggling to conceive naturally, so the couple sought help and began receiving IVF treatment in 2007.

However, the couple are still struggling, with Dion opening up to Oprah in 2010 about miscarrying while in treatment. Despite the ordeal, they are still determined to have another child. Then finally in 2010, Angelil and Dion announced that she was 14 weeks pregnant with twins.

Later that same year, on October 10, Dion gave birth to Eddie and Nelson at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Their names hold particularly significant meaning for Dion, as Eddie is named after his favorite songwriter, Eddie Marney, and Nelson is named after Nelson Mandela, according to People magazine.

Tragically, the boys lost their father at a young age, when he succumbed to a years-long battle with cancer.

Dion told People in 2015: “When you see someone fighting so hard it has a huge impact on you. You have two options. You look at your husband and he’s so sick and you can’t help him. , and he kills you. Or you look at your sick husband and say, ‘I got you.'” I got it. I am here. It’ll be OK.”

Just two days before his 74th birthday, René Angelil died in 2016.

Dion told Hello at the time, “Knowing that he is now at peace and resting and is still inside of me. I see him every day through the eyes of my children. He gave me so much strength.”

“Honestly, I think I’m at the best of my life right now and I want to enjoy every moment and really enjoy it,” she added.

“It’s like I have a second wind, like I have the wind under my wing. I’m having fun.”

Now 10 years old, the twins seem to have inherited their parents’ love for showbiz! This is most evident in the photo uploaded by their mother on their seventh birthday, which appears to have been Michael Jackson themed.

“I can’t believe you’re 7 already… Time is running out so fast! Happy birthday my love! I’m so proud of all my kids! Mom,” Dion captioned the photo.

On their 10th birthday in October 2020, Dion shared a heartwarming post on Instagram, highlighting not only their age, but also how proud they are of the whole family, including Angélil. The footage showed the boys playing in a beautiful fall setting, to which Dion commented:

“Nelson and Eddie, you have brought so much joy, love and laughter into our lives every day for the past 10 years. You make me, your older brother and your father, who definitely looks up to you, so proud “Happy birthday my beautiful boys! We love you so much… – Mom, RC and Dad xx…”

Dion is definitely one doting mom, as her Instagram feed is filled with photos of her adorable boys. In a photo uploaded earlier this year, you can see how much his eldest son, René Charles Angelil, has grown. The family resemblance is hard to deny, as her son carries his mother’s piercing eyes and sharp smile. Dion also posted a celebratory message on Instagram for her birthday in January. Dion wrote alongside a photo of him as a child, as well as a photo of him with her today:

“Dear René Charles, I am so proud of the way you conduct yourself in life. You are a true gentleman, and I want you to know that your father’s guidance continues to support and protect you…as me. Continue to be your best..strong, passionate, and wise, as you pursue all your dreams in life – the sky’s the limit! And above all, have fun!… Your happiness, is my happiness. I love you so much my dear son! Mom xx…”

Despite the unfortunate loss of the paterfamilias a few years ago, Dion has done an incredible job raising his three sons Rene Charles, Nelson and Eddie Angell since then. She’s a world-famous singer and a wonderful mother to her three children – who would have thought Celine Dion could do it all so well? She is truly an inspiration to women all over the world.
