Speaking to a local news station, Traci informed the public about the dress code issues Morgan faced. She expressed frustration with the dress code and how management seemed to be more obsessed with what her daughter would wear than her education. “She’s not getting a good education, she’s late for school, and we’re now spending two days focusing on pants that are too tight,” Tracy told WRTV Indianapolis.
“I can’t understand there being such a big issue with the dress code and not her upbringing,” Tracy added.
Morgan and her father went shopping at various stores to find jeans that the school deemed appropriate for the students.
“Morgan and I went to Kohl’s and Target and spent over two hours there wearing tracksuits, ill-fitting jeans, everything, and none of them fit,” Bentley said. “There was a couple who would have been fine with me because the father had let my daughter go to school, and they would have brought her home.”
Morgan’s mother worried about how this situation might affect Morgan’s self-esteem. She said: “Walking into that dressing room and trying on a number of different outfits and they don’t fit you right, or thinking it doesn’t look good on her, or someone is going to judge her, will of course affect her self-esteem. It’s heartbreaking for us.
“We stood there for over two hours and she was crying while doing it,” Morgan’s father added.
The school responded that the dress code helped maintain an orderly environment and refused to back down. A statement was released by Dr. Flora Richanader, superintendent of the Franklin Township Community School Foundation shortly after the news broke. Lily:
“As a high performance school district, Franklin Township Community School Corporation believes in maintaining a safe and orderly school environment. There will be times when certain styles of clothing are inappropriate or conducive to the school environment and should be maintained. out of -school option Our school manual is very specific regarding the dress code for middle school students.
Despite the result, Tracy managed to highlight the issue and spread awareness about her daughter’s fight. She also added how this issue further reinforces the issue of bullying. “Bullying is really a huge factor here,” Tracy said. “And to make you feel like school is bullying, adults are bullying, welcome to the real world, Morgan.”
This story draws attention to difficult dress code issues. Although they may serve a purpose, they are often abusive and unfairly target young women. It’s a good reminder that we need to have a conversation about these issues in our societies and try to find ways to prevent such issues from happening.
