Dave has always marveled at the innate intelligence and talents of chimpanzees. Wondering what would happen if he could share some human music with the chimpanzees in the pack, he asked permission to satisfy his curiosity.
The Chimpeden Rescue Project Supervisor was receptive to the idea and they gave Dave the permission he needed to pursue his desires and experiments.
Dave pulled out a steel drum shell which was played by tapping his finger on several metal slots and began playing his chimpanzee friends. An audience of about six chimpanzees quickly gathered along the fence. One, in particular, really felt the beat.
He let his tongue hang out of his mouth as he stood on two legs and began to tap his feet in time with Dave’s rhythm line. Dave didn’t skip a beat; His assistant filmed the whole event so he could play without interruption.
The real surprise came when the same swinging chimpanzee also started clapping in rhythm!
Dave and his buddy were stunned, but they kept playing their hypnotic music. Other chimpanzees showed varying levels of interest in returning. Sometimes they swayed with the beat, other times they clapped with the beat.
However, none of them were as invested as the lead dancer; Her face was light and her smile lit up the savannah. The chimpanzee was pointing and smiling as Dave continued to give more and more beat-based commentary; He also referred to them.
The musical number ended with a pair of chimpanzees in the audience deciding it was time to play; They ran around each other and chased a few of their buddies around some campus gyms. Obviously, Dave was cheerful the whole time.
He had a wide smile on his face and his teeth were as shiny as a white bandana on his head. Hopefully he can one day give a great performance to his chimpanzee friends!
