She and her husband took care of four children and gave the rest to family and friends.
Garbage collector Lu has been hailed a hero for adopting abandoned children
Lu and her husband, who died 17 years ago, took care of the children and raised them as their own

Her youngest son, Zhang Qilin (now aged seven) was found in a trash can when she was 82 years old.
“Even though I was already getting old, I just couldn’t ignore the baby and let him die in the trash. He looked so cute and needy. I had to take him home with me,” she said.
She saved him and brought him back to health in a modest little house near the countryside.
The little girl she found if she had abandoned her now takes care of her older children.

“It all started when I found my first baby, a little girl in 1972 while I was picking up trash. She was lying among the trash on the street, deserted. She would have died if we hadn’t rescued her and taken her away. ”

Then she realized that if she really cared about the children who had been abandoned, she felt so much joy and happiness about it.
She went on to say that all children need love and wondered who could leave a vulnerable child on the streets. Lu, who has a biological daughter, Zhang Kaiying and is now 49, has dedicated her life to caring for abandoned children.
Lou made a living collecting and recycling rubbish and said she would never leave the children abandoned after meeting them.

Lu, who is now hospitalized, has become an icon in her village and people say she puts the government and other officials to shame.
