After serving in the military for 13 years, Simon Brown’s life changed in an instant. In 2006, Simon was on a rescue mission and had just successfully rescued six fellow stranded soldiers when their vehicle broke down. When the group attempted to escape, Simon’s sniper struck him in the face.
He miraculously survived but remained partially blind. He left the military and underwent at least 25 surgeries. His cheekbones and nose were reconstructed, his jaw was fractured and reshaped, and he was fitted with a prosthetic eye.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old girl named Temperance Pattinson, aka Tempe, grew up with soldiers and war heroes. She started volunteering to help veterans when she was three years old!
Enter Help for Heroes, a wonderful organization that offers support to people who have suffered cuts, illnesses and injuries while serving in the British Armed Forces. Tempe has always dreamed of meeting a real soldier. So, as part of his “Face It Together” campaign, Simon and Tempe met in person for intimacy and face-to-face movement.
