Ten years after Donald Trump descended the golden escalator of Trump Tower to announce his entry into politics, the former president is back in the spotlight — this time not for politics, but for business. Marking the anniversary of that pivotal moment, the Trump Organization has announced the launch of Trump Mobile, a new virtual mobile network operator.
While Trump attends the G7 summit, his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., unveiled the new family venture. Trump Mobile leans heavily into economic nationalism, promising to operate using “Made in the USA” wireless networks and hardware — although, in reality, it will rely on infrastructure provided by major carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
Trump Mobile will work with any compatible phone, but the company is also introducing its own device: the T1, marketed as domestically manufactured, with a price tag of $499 (plus tax). According to the promotional materials, the T1 features a gold casing and an American flag design. It is expected to be available in September, with pre-orders already open. The phone’s screen proudly displays Trump’s campaign slogan: “Make America Great Again.”
The T1 will run on Android, with 12GB RAM, 256GB of internal storage, a 50-megapixel main camera, and a 6.8-inch display. However, the manufacturer and production site remain undisclosed, raising questions about the authenticity of its “Made in the USA” claim — especially in a global tech industry where even Apple manufactures its devices in Asia due to cost competitiveness.
The mobile service, dubbed “Plan 47”, is a nod to Trump’s position as the 45th and potentially 47th U.S. president, and will cost $47.45 per month. The plan includes unlimited calls, texts, and data, plus 24/7 roadside assistance (via Drive America), telemedicine services covering virtual healthcare and mental health support, easy access to prescription delivery, and free international calling to over 100 countries — “including many with U.S. military bases, in honor of the brave families serving overseas.”
Trump Mobile also emphasizes its U.S.-based, human customer support. “Trump Mobile’s customer service is not automated. When customers call, they speak to a real person,” the company claims.
“We’ve partnered with some of the biggest names in the industry to ensure everyday Americans get real value from their mobile service,” said Donald Trump Jr. during the product announcement. He also highlighted the plan’s bundled offerings, including telehealth access and global texting.
Last week, the Trump Organization filed trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to register the name “Trump” and the term “T1” for telecommunications-related products and services, including phones, phone cases, battery chargers, wireless service, and potentially retail stores.
This latest move reflects the Trump family’s ongoing effort to diversify their business empire, traditionally centered on real estate, luxury hotels, and golf resorts. In recent years, they have expanded into digital media and cryptocurrencies. Trump Media, the company behind Truth Social, is now valued at over $5 billion, despite limited revenue and ongoing losses. The company recently raised capital and issued bonds to purchase bitcoin.
