In a peculiar incident in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, a four-year-old boy caught the attention of local authorities and the media when he dialed 911 to report a “crime” that left him deeply disappointed: his mother had eaten his ice cream.

According to a Facebook post by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the event took place on March 4th and ended with an unexpected twist involving both the officers and the young protagonist.

The department explained that Officers Gardinier and Ostergaard were dispatched to the residence after receiving a 911 call that was abruptly disconnected. Upon arrival, they discovered that the reason behind the call was the child’s anger over his mother consuming his favorite dessert.

The boy, as noted by the department, expressed that his mother was “being mean” and insisted she should go to jail for what she had done. However, his stance softened shortly after, admitting that he no longer wanted his mother to face legal trouble — he simply wished for more ice cream.

The 911 Call That Surprised the Operator

The audio of the call, obtained by WCAX, reveals the amusing exchange between the boy and the 911 operator. In the recording, the child, clearly upset, explains his “emergency.”

“Hello, this is Racine County 911. What is the address of your emergency?” asked the operator.

“My mom is being mean,” the boy replied. When pressed for more details, he insisted, “Come and take my mom.”

During the conversation, the boy’s mother took the phone to clarify the situation. She explained that her son had grabbed the phone and made the call after warning her he would do so.

“I ate his ice cream, so that’s probably why he’s calling 911,” the mother told the operator. Despite her explanation, the boy didn’t back down immediately, once again demanding that the police take his mom to jail — though he eventually asked them to just leave her alone.

The Officers’ Response and a Sweet Resolution

The Mount Pleasant Police Department shared that the responding officers spoke with both the child and his mother to resolve the misunderstanding. During the visit, the boy made it clear that all he really wanted was more ice cream, setting aside his initial desire for his mom to face consequences.

To wrap up the incident on a positive note, the officers returned to the boy’s home the following day with a special surprise.

As described in the department’s Facebook post, the officers brought ice cream for the boy, hoping to brighten his day and close the case with a smile. A heartwarming photo accompanied the post, showing the child happily enjoying his treat alongside the officers.

Although the incident did not involve a real emergency, the Mount Pleasant Police Department saw it as an opportunity to engage with the community in a lighthearted and positive way.

The story sparked mixed reactions online. Some users criticized the idea of “rewarding” the boy for calling 911 without a true emergency, pointing out the importance of using emergency services responsibly. However, the majority viewed it as a case of childlike innocence, agreeing that a gentle reminder about the proper use of 911 was more than enough.
