Skyler Cooper, a military father deployed with the Kansas Army National Guard in Kuwait for a seven-month stint, left behind his wife, Cydney, and their sons, Leighton and Corbett, as he embarked on his mission.

During Skyler’s deployment, Cydney, pregnant with twins, faced additional challenges when she caught the flu at 33 weeks. Despite the premature birth of their twins, Emma and Kyla, who had to spend time in the NICU, Cydney found herself navigating a complex and stressful situation with two sons at home. In her own words, she felt like she was “hanging on by a string,” expressing the profound longing for her husband during this trying period, as reported by Good Morning America.

Amidst the challenging circumstances, a moment of unexpected joy unfolded. While Cydney was in the hospital visiting their baby daughters, she received a text from Skyler inquiring about the twins’ well-being. To her astonishment, Skyler walked into the hospital room at that very moment, bearing flowers and American flag balloons. Overwhelmed with disbelief and relief, Cydney burst into tears.

With Skyler’s return, the surprise extended a bit further. The couple’s two boys were overjoyed to discover that their father was back home. Cydney shared this heartwarming reunion on Facebook, reflecting on the challenges they faced during “1 year of crazy.”

From thousands of miles apart and a solo pregnancy and delivery to numerous Skype calls, superheroes, plane rides, 12 NICU days, and abundant support from family and friends, Cydney highlighted the resilience and strength it took to weather these trials. After all the hurdles, she expressed her joy that her soldier was finally home
