During his performance, John takes a few moments to share the magical and mysterious process of songwriting with the audience. He admits that some songs seem to flow effortlessly, while others require immense effort and time. One such example is ‘Heart to Heart,’ written during a brief moment alone in a restaurant overlooking Hong Kong harbor.
However, ‘Healing Time on Earth’ proved to be an entirely different story. As the symposium approached, John still hadn’t completed the song, so he turned to his friend David’s book, “Let the Mountains Talk, Let the Rivers Run: A Call to Those Who Would Save the Earth,” for inspiration.
Amusingly, he confesses to the audience, “I started writing a song. And this has been going on for a couple of weeks… Up until 4:30 yesterday morning, all I had was ‘let the mountains talk and let the river run’.” Despite not having all the words ready for the song even at the moment of his performance, he felt a strong desire to play something for his dear friend David and the audience.
John humorously acknowledges, “So, I don’t know how it happens, and I don’t know the words to this song. I may know some of them… This is a song in progress, folks.” He reassures David that he didn’t want him to leave the event thinking that the song would never materialize. With those heartfelt words, he begins playing a gentle tune on his acoustic guitar
