Tammy Slaton, star of the reality show “1000-lb Sisters,” has been open about her struggles with weight and mental health. However, her brother, Chris, and her weight loss coach, Jerry Sykes, are becoming increasingly worried about her well-being. While they both agree that Tammy has the right to prioritize her mental health, they fear she is using it as an excuse to avoid making necessary changes to her lifestyle.
According to Sykes, Tammy’s new lifestyle is putting her in severe danger and raises concerns for him. He believes that Tammy is not making any strides to improve her health and may even be using her mental health as an excuse to indulge in activities that are distracting her from making necessary changes to her diet and activity level.
Their fears were proven correct when Tammy was hospitalized and put on a ventilator after suffering a health scare. She was put in an induced coma when her body began to shut down. Tammy’s sister, Amy, said the family was in a panic when Tammy appeared to stop breathing, prompting an immediate rush to the emergency room.
In a clip from the show, Tammy’s family expressed fears that she was going to “end up dead” if she didn’t get a handle on her health situation. Another clip showed medical professionals yelling that her “oxygen’s dropping” before making a beeline for her bed.
After her health scare, Tammy joined a weight-loss rehab facility in Ohio and vowed to change her hard-partying ways. Tammy’s coach, Sykes, said if Tammy could get her weight down to 500 lbs, she could undergo weight loss surgery after completing her stint in rehab.
Despite the challenges she has faced, Tammy has found happiness with her new husband, Caleb Willingham. The couple got married in November 2022 and Tammy is optimistic about her future. She has learned to appreciate life more and is determined to take control of her health and not let her body defeat her.
