A weekend escape to the mountains with friends sounded like a perfect plan — until it turned into a logistical mess and a case of unfair expectations.

A 27-year-old woman shared on Reddit that she was excited to get away with her three friends: a couple and another pal recovering from an injury. The group originally found a great Airbnb with enough space for everyone — one room with a king bed for the couple, and another with two single beds for the remaining two.
But things took a turn when one friend insisted the place had to have a pool — despite the trip only lasting one night. While they scrambled to find a new spot, their ideal Airbnb was booked, leaving them with limited (and less comfortable) options.
The only available rental they could find had a single bedroom, a pull-out couch, and an air mattress. Predictably, the couple claimed the bedroom for themselves — but didn’t offer to pay more. The injured friend obviously couldn’t sleep on the floor, so he got the couch, leaving the woman — the only one who could drive — stuck with the dreaded air mattress.
To make matters worse, she was also the only one working on Monday, meaning she’d have to drive everyone back home after a terrible night’s sleep and then head straight to work exhausted.
“I really don’t want to be the one driving for hours, sleeping on an air mattress, and then dragging myself to work the next day all tired and sore,” she explained. “I genuinely hate sleeping on an air mattress! I always sleep like crap and it just hurts my neck.”
Fed up, she told her friends she was backing out of the trip.
“I told them that if they want to do a trip like this, they need to plan it better so that everyone is comfortable.”
That’s when one of the friends hit her with a guilt trip — calling her a “party pooper,” selfish, and claiming she was “ruining the weekend.”
“For a moment, I really did think I was overreacting,” she admitted. “But honestly, it doesn’t feel fair that I have the worst sleeping arrangement and still get labeled as the problem.”
Commenters rallied behind her, praising her for standing her ground.
“Have them sleep on the air mattress — you’re the one driving and working Monday,” one person pointed out.
Another added, “Your comfort matters just as much as theirs. Remember: lack of planning on their part doesn’t make it an emergency on yours.”
